Diane Favro

Department/School: Dept. of Architecture, UCLA

Biography: Prof. Favro is a Professor of Architecture at UCLA, specializing in Architectural History; she has recently served as President of the Society of Architectural Historians. The author of many articles, reviews, and the book, "The Urban Image of Augustan Rome," she oversees all ETC projects, and conducts research on how best to apply VR technology in the classroom.

Biography: Chris has a strong background in Classics, Computer Science and Virtual Reality. He is currently involved in the implementation of UCLA's new Visualization Portal. His project, Fori Romani Simulacrum, was shown at MediARTech (Florence, IT) and SIGGRAPH '99 (SGI Booth).

Biography: Lisa's research focuses on use of interactive computer technology for the study and teaching of historic urban environments. She has a B.S. from Northern Arizona University, an Masters of Architectural History from the University of Virginia, and a Ph.D. from UCLA.

Biography: In her ten-year career at UCLA, Margo has held positions as a Presentation Specialist, Multimedia and Web Developer, Visualization Portal Project Coordinator, Portal Manager, Web Architecture Manager, and Technology Integration Manager. Ewan Branda

Biography: Ewan is an architect with expertise in the design of digital information systems. He worked for six years as a registered architect in Montreal and subsequently as a software engineer in Los Angeles. He is interested in the design of multimedia databases and metadata models for research in architectural history. He is also the technical editor of the Electronic Book Review.


Robert Cargill

Robert R. Cargill

Department/School: Near Eastern Languages and Cultures
Biography:Robert Cargill joined UCLA in 2001 as a doctoral student in the Department of Near Eastern Languages and Cultures. His experience in Semitic languges, archaeology, and technology led him to the Qumran Visualization Project, where he serves as Chief Architect and Designer. Robert taught courses for four years at Pepperdine University, and has been excavating in Israel since 1999, including excavations at Banias, Omrit, and Hazor. Robert holds a Ph.D. in Near Eastern Languages and Cultures with an emphasis in archaeology, an M.Div. from Pepperdine, and an M.A. in Ancient Near Eastern Civilizations from UCLA.

Jennifer Dillon

Biography: Jennifer completed her undergraduate degree in Illustration at the Rhode Island School of Design and her MA in the Architecture program at UCLA. Jennifer has worked for several projects as an archaeological illustrator; her current work involves using Virtual Reality reconstructions to teach about historical environments.


Elaine Sullivan

Elaine Sullivan

Department/School: Post-Doctoral Fellow, joint appointment with Near Eastern Languages and Cultures and Architecture and Urban Design
Biography: Elaine finished her Ph.D. in Near Eastern Studies at Johns Hopkins University and joined the ETC lab in September 2007. Her current project involves creating a Virtual Reality model of the Karnak Temple precinct to be used in college classrooms across the country.


Itay Zaharovits

Itay Zaharovits

Department/School: Architecture and Urban Design
Biography: Itay received his undergrad degree in Architecture from the University of Maryland and later completed his Architecture Master's degree from the Department of Architecture at UCLA. He has been an ETC Research Fellow for four years, and has contributed significantly to many of ETC's digital reconstruction projects around the globe including Rome, Santiago de Compostela, Karnak, Jerusalem, Albania and more. He is the lead designer of the Meth Apartment 3D environment project in collaboration with Ph.D student Christopher Culbertson of the Neuroscience department at UCLA.

Rebeka Vital

Biography: Rebeka is an architect, licensed in Greece, and has a background in architectural lighting and acoustics. She is interested in digital reconstruction of synagogues and Jewish institutions in Salonica, Greece, that have disappeared after World War II.

   
 

Renee Calkins

Biography: Renee is a graduate student of Classics at UCLA, where she is studying Greek and Latin literature. After graduating from UC San Diego, she worked for several years in an architectural firm where she developed great proficiency in AutoCad. At the CVRLab she is able to combine her interests in architectural history and the Classical world.

   
 

Kathryn Fallat

Department/School: Architecture and Urban Design
Biography: Kathryn is completing her second year in the Master of Architecture program at UCLA. Previously she worked for three years at Vinci|Hamp Architects in Chicago. Received her B.S. in Architecture from the University of Michigan in 2000.

   
 

Steven Guban

Department/School: Architecture and Urban Design
Biography: Steven has an architectural degree from Ohio State University and completed his Masters degree in architecture from UCLA in 2006. In his spare time, Steven enjoys traveling to exotic locales.

   
 

Tom Beresford

Department/School: Architecture and Urban Design
Biography: Tom Beresford is a native of Aurora, CO. After studying photography and sculpture at Brown University and the Rhode Island School of Design, Tom worked as an artist and architectural designer in Denver, CO and Los Angeles, CA before entering in the professional program in architecture at UCLA. Tom graduated from UCLA in 2007 and is now living in New York. His fetishes include opus caementicium.

   
 

Brendan Beachler

Department/School: Architecture and Urban Design
Biography: Brendan has an architectural design degree from the University of Florida, and has several years of working experience in Florida and Los Angeles. He hopes that architecture can combine his interests in building things, farmer's markets, digital design and staying up late.

 

 

 

Stanislav Parfenov

Department/School: School of Public Affairs, Department of Urban Planning
Biography: Stanislav is the team's GIS Specialist. He completed his undergraduate studies in Geography/Environmental Studies at UCLA in 2006. Currently, he  is working on his Master's Degree in Urban Planning, specializing in Transportation Planning. At ETC, Stanislav worked on and significantly contributed to numerous projects in various academic disciplines.
